In a little restaurant in Quimper in 1910, I became acquainted with a young man, Jean Caradec.

We spoke, in French, of the old language of the natives of Brittany.

He was pleased with my interest went home and brought to me a "Sinday School" book that had been given him some years before.

He informed me that the title "Ann Viel" means "Life of the Saints".

I suppose his mother, who doubtless spoke better "Breton" than French, must have written the inscription:
